I received one vodafone 785 today that has this issue of the phone screen going off completely whenever i make a call. The phone screen goes off completely such that i cannot be able to end the ongoing call. The proximity sensor settings was O.k and nothing was covering the sensor on the screen touch. After thorough check to find out what was wrong, I disassembled the phone and discovered that the small black rubber like pad surrounding the sensor was missing. Replacing the pad solved my problem.
